Return to the roots of golf at Shepherds Crook, the Zion Park District owned and operated layout that offers a passage back to golfs heritage.
Opened in August, 1999 Shepherds Crook has earned rave reviews as a course that is both challenging and exciting to play. Designed by Keith Foster, who has designed some of the most interesting courses built in the last 10 years, is a links-style course that creates a feeling of playing Irelands Ballybunion or Waterville courses. Shepherds Crooks design reflects the golden era of golf course architecture of the 1920s and 30s with bentgrass fairways, tees, and greens.
Shepherds Crook is routed with classic and strategic design principles that cut features naturally to the terrain. The vision of Shepherds Crook returns golfers to the games past (Keith Foster, Architect for Shepherds Crook Golf Course).
What People Are Saying About Shepherds Crook!
The Zion Park Districts new course might be one of the best bargains in town. The links-style design offers several challenging and interesting holes. Yet it is priced affordably, ... making it well worth the drive. (Chicago Tribune, May 31, 2000).
Shepherds Crook is everything a good golf course should be. The design is straight-forward, with generous landing areas, enough trouble around the greens to get your attention, and beautiful bunkering. Shepherds Crook is a fine golf course in every way that counts. (Gary DAmato, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel).
Rated 5 Stars (Chicagoland Golf Magazine).
100 Best Fairways (Golf for Women Magazine).
I fell in love with Shepherds Crook. It is a thinking persons golf course, where length isnt as necessary as the ability to size up the options it offers and make a wise decision. At times, it requires target golf, but there are plenty of opportunities to hit your driver, too. (Phil Kosin, Editor, Chicagoland Golf Magazine).
