2010 CONCERT IN THE PARK SERIES

Zion Park District will once again offer its Concert in the Park Series this summer.

The concerts will all be held on Thursday evenings from June 17 thru August 5
beginning at 7:00 PM, at the Zion Park District Bandshell, located immediately
adjacent to the Zion Leisure Center, 2400 Dowie Memorial Drive, Zion.

JUNE 17 - BILL O’CONNELL’S SKYLINERS BIG BAND
The Skyliners Big Band was formed by Bill O’Connell in 1988 for the sole purpose of prolonging the musical memory of the Big Band Era. And they’ve been doing it! The music of Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Glen Miller, Frank Sinatra and many more is alive and well as presented by the Skyliners Big Band.
 
JUNE 24 - JAMES CREEK ROAD
This 6 piece band (with two vocalists) will play all of your Bluegrass favorites. Hailing from Zion and the surrounding area, you’ll not only recognize some of the players, but are sure to love their music. You’ll stay til the last note.
 
JULY 1 - THE WHITE SADDLE BAND
A typical evening with the White Saddle Band will include songs by the likes of Elvis, Hank Williams, the Eagles, Alan Jackson, CSNY, the Temptations, the Beatles and on & on. The White Saddle Band has been a Zion favorite, appearing numerous times at 4th of July and Concerts in the Park in prior years. Please join us for an evening of great music and nostalgia.

This coming 4th of July, Zion’s own FullScore Chamber Orchestra will present a concert of America’s best music in the Zion Band Shell entitled “American Extravaganza!” Selections will include “The Armed Forces Salute", well known Sousa marches like "Stars and Stripes", and a moving tribute to William Wilberforce - the British parliamentarian who single handedly fought for the end of slavery in England. The rest of the concert will be familiar great music of American culture and end with Tchaikovsky’s ever popular “1812 Overture” and our annual fireworks! Don’t miss this salute to our country and the spirit that keeps America alive. This concert will end a wonderful day of family entertainment provided by the Zion Park District and lead into Zion’s annual fireworks display.

JULY 8 - THE SPECIAL CONSENSUS
The Special Consensus returns to Zion with their own special blend of acoustic bluegrass music. They have released several albums and CD’s, and have toured nationally since 1979. They have won many national and international awards, and are sure to bring their top notch performance to Zion this evening.
 
JULY 15 - THE ASSOCIATES
Featuring some of the finest of vocalists and musicians, The Associates is the Midwest’s premiere Motown and variety band. Exciting renditions of their crowd-pleasing repertoire gets the entire crowd up and dancing!
 
JULY 22 - BANJO BUDDIES DIXIELAND JAZZ BAND
Band leader Ann Stewart, often called the Diva of Dixieland headlines the Banjo Buddies with her sultry vocals and dynamic banjo playing. The Banjo Buddies generate a sound that touches a new standard in excitement and ingenuity. Specializing in Dixieland Jazz and popular standards from the 20’s thru the 50’s, they are sure to provide an evening of pure fun.
 
JULY 29 - SODA
With SODA we are going to find exactly what we need to keep the summer going. This group captures the heart and soul of a most diverse playlist; from Jimmy Buffet to Smashmouth, from Johnny Cash to Black-Eyed Peas. SODA presents an ‘all ages’ show with plenty of audience participation and rock n’ roll! Get a taste of SODA and you’ll be back for more.
 
AUGUST 5 - COUNTRY TRADITION
Another band made up primarily of local musicians, Country Tradition offers the finest in traditional Country music. With a little ‘old time’ Rock n Roll thrown in, we are sure to have a great time listening to Country Tradition.

POTAWATOMI TRAILS POW WOW

The Potawatomi Trails Pow-Wow, the only event of its kind in this area, is a celebration of Native-American heritage. Its purpose is not only to celebrate this heritage, but also to heighten public awareness of Native-American history, traditions, and customs. Specific activities will include demonstrations, music and dance presentations, educational sessions and a trader area.

SEPTEMBER 4 - 6, 2010

Zion’s Labor Day Festival, features community wide activities,
including a Queen’s Pageant, Concerts, Illinois’ largest Labor Day Parade,
Fireworks and many more events and attractions!

Our theme this year is “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”.

Outdoor Family Concert - FullScore Chamber Orchestra, in conjunction with the Jubilee Days Festival, will perform at the Zion Band Shell in an all "Broadway Pops" concert featuring your favorite tunes from musical theater. FullScore Chamber Orchestra always presents a lively family friendly concert to help Zion celebrate Labor Day weekend. The concert is at 7 p.m. followed by annual fireworks display. You can bring picnics, blankets and chairs, and your friends to sit under the beautiful late summer sky for "The Sound of Music", "West Side Story", Fiddler on the Roof", and "Camelot" just to name a few of the medlies planned for this event. Join in with FullScore's special vocal guests and sing these time honored tunes with our beloved hometown orchestra! The concert is free - underwritten by Jubilee Days Committee and the Zion Park District.
